Am I succeeding or failing at reading my own damn books? Am I avoiding buying new books that will make the to-be-read pile groan and sigh? Am I focused and kicking the ass of the only reading goal I have set for 2016? This month: barely.
In fact, I seem to be on a digital and audio binge. The thought of picking up a paper book is currently…distasteful. This is nothing new for me, I tend to medium binge. But usually the off-paper cycle reverts after a week or two.
This month I bought and immediately read one paper book, listened to two audio books, and read three digital books. I completed one book from my paper tbr. Better than nothing, but still not much of something.
Photo: On the left you’ll see the current state of my tbr. That’s 192 books in piles on my floor. And, also, a broom. (Sorry about that.) On the right you’ll see the ten books I weeded out of the pile this month. At least the pile is shrinking. Ten down, one read! That’s minus eleven! All this weeding still feels like cheating.
What I did accomplish in February was an anti-accomplishment. An accomplishment via inaction. I did not buy any new tbr books (the style guide doesn’t count, it went right to my reference shelf, as did several other style guides). Holy shit right? Maybe there’s hope for me yet.
