Every year Stainless Steel Droppings hosts the RIP (R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril) reading challenge. This year Book Punks decided to play along, while at the same time joining in the fun with Oh! The Books’ Horror October event. Some amazing things happened. For one, I got back on the horror, a genre I haven’t really read in almost 20 years, thanks to Nightmare Magazine’s Women Destroy Horror! Special Issue. Here’s what else we got up to, in case you missed it and want to get your Halloween Horror on all at once before the clock strikes midnight and turns your pumpkin into a vampire:
Nikki read We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (and she swears she’ll write about them someday), Feed by Mira Grant, and Nightmare Magazine: Women Destroy Horror.
Science Fiction Mix Tape focused on songs about witches during the month of October with a post on Season of the Witch by Donovan, Wicked Old Witch by John Fogerty, Witches by the Cowboy Junkies, and Old Time Relijun’s song Witchcraft Rebellion.
You know what this means? It means that together and separately we totally rocked every single book-related challenge for the RIP event. Fuck yeah. Meanwhile, I discovered a ton of new favorite authors and found myself in love (again) with a whole fucking genre. Win win win win win. Happy Halloween ya’ll, did you read anything scary?
